These Terms of Use govern your access to almantiq.org (the Site), including its articles, images, newsletters and other material made available through the Site. Please read them before using the Site. By using it, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

The Site is operated by the Al Mantiq team (we, us or our). Our contact details are at the end of these terms.

1. What we publish

Al Mantiq publishes independent analysis, commentary and other editorial material about the Middle East and North Africa. Views expressed in signed articles are those of their authors and do not necessarily represent the views of Al Mantiq. We may edit, update, correct, remove or change material at our editorial discretion. Publication does not guarantee that an article will remain available indefinitely.

Our material is provided for general information and discussion. We aim to take care with accuracy, but events, figures and sources can change. You should check information against current primary sources where a decision depends on it. Nothing on the Site is intended as legal, medical, financial or other professional advice.

2. Copyright and permitted use

Unless otherwise indicated, the text, original images, design, branding and other material on the Site (Content) belong to us or are used with permission from the relevant rights holders. The Al Mantiq name and logo may not be used in a way that suggests our approval or affiliation without our written permission.

You may read and share links to our pages, photos and videos. You may also save or print individual articles for your own private, non-commercial use, and quote brief extracts with clear attribution and a link to the original article, subject to applicable law. These permissions do not extend to third-party material displayed on the Site where separate rights apply.

Unless we have given prior written permission or applicable law allows it, you may not republish full articles; systematically copy or archive substantial parts of the Site; sell, license or redistribute our Content; or use our Content to create a competing publication or content service. Requests to reproduce or syndicate material should be sent to [email protected].

You may not use automated tools to scrape, extract or collect Content at scale, or use Content to train or develop machine-learning or generative-AI systems, without our prior written permission, except where applicable law permits that use despite these terms. This restriction does not prohibit ordinary indexing by public search engines that provide links to our pages, or access expressly permitted by us.

3. Acceptable use

You must not use the Site unlawfully, interfere with its security or operation, introduce malicious code, attempt unauthorised access, impersonate another person, or use the Site to harass others or infringe their rights. You must not remove copyright notices or misrepresent our work or its authorship.

You may link to a public page on the Site if the link is fair and does not suggest that we endorse you, your organisation or your views. We may ask you to remove a link that is misleading or unlawful.

4. Accounts and newsletters

If we offer accounts or other restricted features, you must provide accurate information, keep your login details confidential and tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised. We may suspend access where reasonably necessary to protect the Site or respond to a breach of these terms.

If you subscribe to an email newsletter, you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in the email or by contacting us. Subscribing to a free newsletter does not give you rights to republish its contents. Any future paid subscription, event, product or service will be subject to its stated terms at the point of purchase; these terms do not establish a paid subscription or an automatic renewal.

5. Comments and submissions

If the Site allows comments or accepts article submissions, you are responsible for what you send us. You must have the rights needed to submit it, and it must not be unlawful, defamatory, threatening, abusive, discriminatory, misleading or an infringement of another person's privacy or intellectual property. Please do not send confidential information through a public comment feature.

We may moderate, edit, decline or remove comments. An article proposal or submission does not guarantee publication. The copyright in material you submit remains with you or its rights holder. By submitting a comment for publication, you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to display, reproduce, edit for length and clarity, and distribute it in connection with the Site and our promotion of the relevant discussion. Article submissions are governed by any separate contributor agreement we agree with you before publication. We will not treat submission alone as a transfer of your copyright.

If you believe material on the Site infringes your rights or contains a significant factual error, contact us with the page URL and enough detail for us to assess your request.

6. Third-party links and material

Articles may link to external websites or contain material supplied by third parties. Those sites and materials are subject to their own terms and policies. We do not control them, and a link does not mean that we endorse everything they contain. Images, charts or extracts credited to others may require permission from their respective rights holders before reuse.

7. Privacy and cookies

Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal information, including information provided through newsletter sign-ups, accounts and contact forms. Our cookies policy explains the technologies used on the Site and the choices available to you. These terms do not replace those notices.

8. Availability and liability

We aim to keep the Site available and secure, but cannot guarantee uninterrupted access or that the Site will always be free from errors or harmful code. You should use appropriate safeguards on your own devices.

To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for losses arising solely from reliance on general editorial material, temporary unavailability, or third-party websites outside our control. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limits any mandatory rights you may have as a consumer.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the Site develops. We will post the revised version here and change the “Last updated” date. Changes take effect when posted, unless we state a later date. If a change materially affects a service for which you have registered, we will provide additional notice where appropriate. Your continued use of the Site after the new terms take effect means you accept them.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany. If you are a consumer, this choice of law does not deprive you of any mandatory protections that would apply under the law of your usual place of residence. Any dispute may be brought before a court that has jurisdiction under applicable law.
